Rith 2016 – The All-Ireland relay run returns for 2016!
The 11th March will see hundreds of people take to the streets of Maghera and surrounding roads in a bid to show their support for the Irish language in the area.
Rith 2016 is a national festival which will take place in March 2016 as one of the main events of Seachtain na Gaeilge, Irish language Week. This year we hope to build on the success of Rith 2010, 2012 and Rith 2014 when huge numbers of people participated in the relay run around Ireland.
This year the route will see RITH run through every county in Ireland starting in Kildare and finishing on the steps of the GPO, Dublin. Its estimated up 50,000 people will be talking to the roads in support this year.
Any group wishing to take part group is encouraged to buy a KM at €100, but you can fundraise to cover the cost of this. Everything raised over and above the cost of the KM your group gets to keep. The money raised will go towards groups throughout the country promoting and encouraging the use of Irish locally.
Locally her in County Derry Rith will be co-ordinated by An Carn and will pass through Maghera on Friday 11th March around 4pm and continue to An Carn where the will be refreshments and entertainment after the RITH
It isn’t too late to take part and everyone is welcome to come out and run even if you’re not buying a Km! Don’t hesitate to contact Joe at An Carn 028 79549978 or if you are interested in getting involved
