An Coire is a community arts centre which serves the population of Carntogher/Maghera and beyond with a wide range of arts and cultural activities. It opened its doors in November 2013 and is located within the former business units at An Carn, which have been converted into an Arts Centre and multipurpose venue to provide the opportunity for local creative talent to flourish.
The centre is situated at the foot of the Sperrins, just off the Glenshane Pass. The central location of the building mid way between Belfast and Derry and less than an hour from Armagh, Omagh and the North Coast provides many opportunities for visitors to experience the Arts in Carntogher.
The programmes offered by An Coire promotes the visual arts, many forms of dance and movement, verbal arts, music in many forms, theatre and drama activities, crafts, and an extensive programme of activities and workshops for young people. The wide-ranging programme has been key to the ongoing development of the arts within Mid Ulster. The programmes also provide an opportunity for local people and visitors to experience the arts and fully participate in the cultural life of our rural community.
The programmes are funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
