In the Footsteps of Columba
Feis Cheann Loch Goibhle based in Lochgoilhead in Argyll have received funding under the Homecoming 2009 banner and have put together a musical extravaganza involving 4 Scottish Gaelic musicians and 4 Irish Gaelic musicians and an Irish poet/storyteller
They will be playing a variety of Irish and Gaelic music, songs and tunes beginning with their first concert on Mon 27th July at 8:00pm in the Oakleaf restaurant, Glenshane Pass Maghera. For more information on this concert please contact Leonne at An Carn: 028 7954 9978. From there they go to Ros Goill and perform in Ostan na tra on Tuesday 28 ending up in Gleann Colm Cille Donegal on Wednesday 29th July.
They will be singing in Irish and Scottish Gaelic and play a variety of instruments from fiddle, flute, pipes, guitar and accordion and whistle.
Alongside this performance there will be a photographic backdrop showing pictures of places St Columba passed through on his way from Ireland to Iona, hence the title “In the Footsteps of St Columba”
Tickets can be obtained at the door and are priced £5
It is funded by Argyll & Bute Council, Colm Cille Initiative, Leader and Feisean nan Gaidheal
It will be a great night’s ceol agus craic! The Scottish leg of the concerts will take the musicians to the islands of Gigha, Islay and Mull and onto Campbeltown, Kilmartin Glen and Lochgoilohead ending up with a final performance in the Abby church on the island of Iona. What better place to end up in!
It is hoped that all the musicians will learn from each other and that they will forge lifetime ties of friendship and musical skills just as was the case all those centuries ago.
