Carntogher Launches ‘Green’ Tourism Initiative
Carntogher Community Association have completed a major tourism infrastructure upgrade for the Maghera area. Among a long list of actions including countryside access, a disabled pathway and new ponds at Drumnaph Wood, a history trail and a new brochure and DVD which have been developed to promote environmentally friendly tourism, the group have created a new walking trail from Tirkane to Ballyknock around the beautiful Seefin Hill and Pollan River.
This 4.5k path across open countryside and over quiet lanes is now open to the public all year round. This fantastic resource for locals and visitors alike which complements existing trails on Carntogher Mountain could not have been created without the goodwill of local landowners who supported the project from the outset.
These new developments were made possible
with help from Sperrins Tourism’s Peace II programme fund for natural resource
tourism and Magherafelt District Council’s landfill tax credits.
