Learn to read the historical and natural landscape with this practical course which gives an overview of the archaeology, history, geology, climate and botany of the local environment.

Local Heritage and Landscape Studies

October 2005 – April 2006

Tutor: Pauline McDermott

A practical course adapted to suit those with little detailed knowledge who want a good general knowledge of local culture and environment and most importantly need the skills to be able to share this knowledge with others.

The course is being delivered ‘in the field’ making use of the wealth of natural habitats, local history and archaeological sites around the Carntogher area of Maghera to explain the following topics:

  • Flora and Fauna - History and culture - Archaeology - Geology

The course is aimed at members of the public who want to know about their environment, local hillwalkers, teachers, heritage guides and workers in the tourism industry.
