Dúlra Project Funders

by Claire Doherty last modified 2007-02-07 23:59

Dúlra Bio-diversity Project is funded by Rural Development Council, Environment & Heritage Service and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.

Rural Development Council

The Rural Development Council (RDC) exists to address the needs of deprived rural areas in Northern Ireland. It was set up in 1991 as an independent organisation under the Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Programme-working in partnership with a spectrum of rural interest groups. The RDC believes that rural communities play a vital and significant role in the economic, social and environmental life of the whole region of Northern Ireland. Their contribution should be regarded as a valuable regional resource and is one that the RDC actively supports, encourages and develops.

Vision Statement

"A rural Northern Ireland which makes a full and balanced contribution to the development of the region"

Environment & Heritage Service

Environment & Heritage Service (EHS) is the largest Agency within the Department of the Environment with approximately 600 staff. EHS takes the lead in advising on, and in implementing, the Government's environmental policy and strategy in Northern Ireland. The Agency carries out a range of activities, which promote the Government's key themes of sustainable development, biodiversity and climate change. Our overall aims are to protect and conserve Northern Ireland's natural heritage and built environment, to control and regulate pollution and to promote the wider appreciation of the environment and best environmental practices.

Vision Statement

"Our aim is to protect and conserve the natural and built environment and to promote its appreciation for the benefit of present and future generations"

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation is one of the largest independent grantmaking foundations in the UK. They make grants to organisations which aim to improve the quality of life for people and communities in the UK, both now and in the future. They like to consider work which others may find hard to fund, perhaps because it breaks new ground, appears too risky, requires core funding, or needs a more unusual form of financial help such as a loan. EFF also take initiatives where new thinking is required or where we believe there are important unexplored opportunities.

EFF Values

"We have always believed in the need to support and maintain a free, stable and socially cohesive society. This means one in which enterprise is encouraged and people are able to realise their potential, take advantage of opportunities, and play their part in civil society and democratic life."
