Environment
The Association has a particular interest in the promotion of environmental conservation and environmental sustainability. It has promoted a wide range of projects in this field and has important plans for the future.
Dúlra Biodiversity Project
The Dúlra Biodiversity Project is a three year programme seeking to conserve and enhance the natural environment of the Carntogher area west of Maghera, Co Derry. It is a powerful tool for promoting interaction between local people and their environment and expanding environmental education opportunities locally. The project began in March 2004 and will be completed in February 2007, and is funded by the Rural Development Council through the Building Sustainable Prosperity Programme, Environment and Heritage Service and Esmee Fairbairn Foundation. Green Tourism
Carntogher Community Association have completed a major tourism infrastructure upgrade for the Maghera area. Among a long list of actions including countryside access, a disabled pathway and new ponds at Drumnaph Wood, a history trail and a new brochure and DVD which have been developed to promote environmentally friendly tourism, the group have created a new walking trail from Tirkane to Ballyknock around the beautiful Seefin Hill and Pollan River.
