Féile Charn Tóchair 2009
Wednesday 1st July - Saturday 11th July
Féile Charn Tóchair, Maghera’s annual community festival celebrating the rich cultural and linguistic heritage of the Maghera area, kicks off this year on Wednesday 1st July. Now in its 13th year, 2009 looks set to be the most successful festival yet.
Coláiste Charn Tóchair, Irish language summer school, will provide children the opportunity to learn, use and improve their Irish in a range of fun and innovative games and activities (not to mention giving parents a much needed break during the Summer Holidays!). Course A: 1st – 4th July, is open to all children, from complete beginners to fluent Irish speakers. Course B: 6th - 10th July, is completely in Irish and will be suitable for children in Irish Medium Education.
Carntogher Community Association has put together another fantastic line up of activities throughout the festival including a Treasure Hunt, Pub Quiz and walks around the local area. A Fancy Dress Fun Day on Saturday 11th July at An Carn will provide entertainment for all the family with face painting, bouncy castles and pony rides as well as an open music stage where children can get up and show off their musical talents in front of friends and family. While our Country Market offers a wide range of local organic fruit and vegetable, home-baked goods, handmade crafts and more. As ever, new suppliers are always welcome!
Crazy Folkers will make a welcome return to the festival when they entertain guests at the annual BBQ in Walsh’s Hotel on Saturday 4th July. The festival will close this year with a night of music featuring Maranna McCloskey and supported by local talent at the Oakleaf Restaurant, Glenshane Pass on Friday 10th July. This promises to be the perfect end to a festival full of culture, craic and family fun that will leave everyone counting down the days to Féile Charn Tóchair ‘10!
