Féile Charn Tóchair 2008 - Press Release
Coláiste Charn Tóchair, An Carn’s very own Irish language summer scheme will run throughout the two weeks of the festival. Due to the continuing refurbishments at An Carn, the summer scheme will be held at Sléacht Néil CLG hall. Week 1 of CCT (11th – 15th August), will be completely through Irish and suitable for children attending Irish medium education. Week 2 of Coláiste Charn Tóchair (18th - 22nd August), will also have an emphasis on Irish and is open to all children, from complete beginners to fluent Irish speakers. On both weeks of CCT, kids from 5 – 12 year olds can look forward to a wide variety of fun and games including, arts & crafts, sport, Céilí dancing, singing, traditional music, treasure hunt and a Céilí to round off both weeks. Féile Charn Tóchair will also host a Dianchúrsa Gaeilge, an Intensive Irish language course on the evening of Friday 15th and continuing on Saturday 16th August. This is open to adults of all levels – from complete beginners to Gaeilgeoirí líofa, looking to polish up their vocabulary or grammar. This event will take place at Naíscoil Machaire Rátha. Places are limited so early booking is advisable.
On Saturday 16th August, there will be something for everyone at An Carn centre with the Margadh Tuaithe Country Market and also Lá Spraoi Teaghlaigh the Family Fun Day. Visitors can expect a wide variety of stalls at the market full of local produce, home-baked breads and desserts as well as a range of home-made crafts. Fun for all at Lá Spraoi Teaghlaigh family fun day; with face painting, things to make and do at the arts and crafts table, jump around in the bouncy castle and ball pool or stumble about in the sumo suits. There will also be Pony rides, BBQ, and a kids sports day. To round off the day as well as week 1, why not kick back at the seisiún ceoil in Granny Kane’s.
Week 2 will see a range of activities, with a Tráth na gCeist Table Quiz in Mc Kenna’s Bar on Monday 18th . On Tuesday 19th the Siúlóid Oidhreachta Heritage will depart from Naíscoil Charn Tóchair, beside An Carn. Prepare yourself for the mystic clues and take part in the Toraíocht Taisce The Treasure Hunt on Thursday 21st, departing from Naíscoil Machaire Rátha. To round off the festival “Tannasg” will be playing at Mc Kenna’s Bar on Saturday 23rd.
