A Garden Party with the President
A youth group from Maghera had a very special opportunity recently. Six young people and two leaders met President Mary Mc Aleese and her husband Dr. Máirtín Mc Aleese in the Áras in Dublin on Saturday 10th July, 2010.
After writing a letter to her, to tell her about this Irish language youth group, an invitation was sent to Ógras and Óg-Ógras Luraigh inviting 8 people to attend a garden party with the President. The children were chosen in the fairest way possible by picking their names out of a hat. Those chosen had the opportunity to meet the president and chat for a few minutes and have a photograph taken with her. Refreshments and canapés were provided along with an evening of entertainment with renowned musicians including Jimmy Mc Cartney and Donal Lunny.
The group really enjoyed the occasion.
