As part of its new Volunteering Initiative, Carntogher Community Association are currently looking to recruit individuals to become involved in the many exciting projects and activities run by the group throughout the year.

What is involved in Volunteering?

The Association wishes to encourage and empower people of all ages to get involved in the future development and management of the buildings and facilities at Carntogher, through volunteering.

Types of Voluntary Work

There are a huge variety of activities in which you can become involved in and some are listed below.

Administration / Management

Riarachán / Bainistíocht

  • Become a member of management committee
  • PR Activities
  • New Project Development

Ground/Building Maintenance

(An Carn/Naiscoil/Bunscoil) – Cóiriú Tí

  • Grass Cutting
  • Help with the maintenance and general upkeep of the buildings

Environment

  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Environemntal Gardening
  • Leading/Assisting in local walks
  • Community Litter Campaign
  • Archaeology Research

Summer Festival

Féile

Pre-festival: Become involved in the organisation and delivery

Post-Festival: Help at individual events – make tea/refreshments, set up venues, collect entrance fees, provide coverage of events (video & photographs), collecting feedback

Irish Language

  • Organise / help with fundraising events
  • Organise social events and classes
  • Help with promotion of language at varoius activities and youth events

Business and Enterprise Development

  • Support/Assistance for local start-up businesses * Development of the An Carn Centre to secure full occupancy.

Training & Leisure Courses

  • Volunteer to teach/deliver a course
  • The organisation /promotion of courses

Marketing/PR

  • Promote the activities/projects of the Association
  • Maintain a photograghic record of community events / activities (Photographer)
  • Maintain a video record of community events/activities (Camera person)

Who can Volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer – young or old, male or female, a person with a disability, there is something for everyone

Benefits from Volunteering

The Association views volunteering as a two way process and volunteers can be assured that not only will they benefit from skilled training but will receive immense satisfaction at seeing the results of their hard work while enjoying themselves along the way.

All volunteers will also be able to benefit from the projects and activities that are promoted by the association, free of charge.

This would include free registration for the following:

  • computer courses – beginners, multi-media courses, ECDL, Advanced ECDL Clait etc.
  • arts and craft courses,
  • Environmental courses and activities
  • Music classes (fiddle, guitar, banjo, tin whistle etc)
  • dance classes (set dancing / salsa dancing)
  • Language courses – Irish, Spanish, French, Italian
  • Summer festival activities (Bar-b-que, walks, treasure hunt etc)

Expenses

Travel expenses incurred by volunteers working for the Association will be reimbursed.
